Welcome to
Battle Mountain, NV.
Welcome home!
Nestled in the heart of north-central Nevada, Battle Mountain serves as the seat of Lander County. Conveniently located along Interstate 80 at the junction with State Route 305, it sits roughly halfway between Winnemucca and Elko, making it an ideal stop along Nevada’s famous Cowboy Corridor.
Surrounded by vast open range and mountain terrain, Battle Mountain offers small-town charm, rich history, and endless outdoor adventure.

A TOWN BUILT ON HISTORY
Once home to the Northern Paiute and Shoshone tribes, the area was first explored by fur trader Peter Skene Ogden in 1828 and later by emigrants traveling the Humboldt River Trail. The town’s name traces back to the 1850s, when legend tells of a conflict between settlers and Native Americans near the nearby mountain range.
Battle Mountain began as a rail stop in 1870 supporting the booming mining industry of the Battle Mountain Mining District, established in 1866. The Central Pacific Railroad played a vital role in the town’s development and continues to operate today. Over the years, Battle Mountain evolved into a hub for mining, ranching, and tourism, officially becoming the Lander County seat in 1979.
